How does MFR help so many conditions?

MFR therapy focuses on a critical part of your body that is overlooked by most health professionals - the fascial system.

Fascia is the only body system that touches, penetrates, and interacts with every other part of your body.  It literally connects us head to toe.  Restrictions and tightness in the fascial system can limit your movement and cause crushing pressure on pain sensitive structures.

Restrictions are caused by physical and emotional trauma, inflammatory responses, and surgical procedures. Fascial restrictions cannot be detected by traditional testing such as MRI, Xray, or CT scans, so your doctor may not even realize the cause of your pain.

Since fascia is a network of interconnected tissue, pain in one area can be caused by restrictions in other seemingly unrelated parts of the body. In MFR therapy, we take a whole-body approach to identifying and treating fascial restrictions. Each session is unique to you and the needs of your body. We treat your symptoms AND look elsewhere for the cause. Experience the missing link in health care. Book an appointment today.

MFR can be used to treat many conditions:

  • Sciatica

  • Back pain

  • Hip pain

John Barnes Myofascial Release is unlike any therapy you have tried

Myofascial release is a very effective hands-on technique which provides sustained pressure and stretch combined with movement to “melt” and unravel restrictions within the fascia.

The technique is done directly on the skin without lotions or oils. Please bring or wear clothes that allow for hand-on contact with both your upper and lower body. It is recommended that women bring flexible shorts and loose fitting bra or stretchy tank top and men bring loose fitting athletic shorts. Do not wear lotion or oil on the skin the day of your session.

Self care: In addition to your hands-on treatment, you will receive an individualized self care program. You will learn simple activities you can do at home to enhance your treatment and improve your results.

My story

Back pain occupational Therapist Auburn Ca

Hello, my name is Kathleen O’Brien. I am a holistic occupational therapist who specializes in the John Barnes approach to Myofascial Release. I have trained directly with John Barnes in his clinic and courses. I am an instructor at his seminars for health professionals. I am passionate about helping people through the magic of MFR. I repeat courses, attend study groups, and get treated myself to deepen my knowledge and refine my skills.

Myofascial Release has changed my life both personally and professionally. I was working as a certified hand therapist in an outpatient hospital setting when I took my first MFR seminar in 2005. I had some patients with repetitive strain injuries who weren’t healing and I hoped to learn how to help them. Once I learned about fascia, I could help these patients and many others get out of pain and dysfunction.

In addition to watching my clients get better, I have experienced life changing results myself.
This therapy helped me resolve back pain that I had struggled with since high school. I avoided joint pain when I was recovering from chronic Lyme disease. I returned to work even though my orthopedic surgeon told me I probably wouldn’t be able to after a shoulder dislocation which required extensive surgery. MFR helps me stay active, age well, and live a lifestyle I love.
